Health insurance for students, interns and au pairs in Germany

Some time abroad, whether as a student, au pair, or on a Work & Travel program, can be great for your life experience, your education and your future career. Would you like to get to know Germany and at the same time always know that your medical care and protection is always covered? Then our German travel health insurance Young Travel is the right choice for you. You don’t have to do a lot of research – our health insurance meets all requirements if you want to apply for a Germany and EU student visa as a student, intern, au pair or as part of a Work & Travel experience. You get it at a reasonable price and you can cancel it flexibly. Do you already have insurance in your home country? Then the Young Travel tariffs could close the gaps in your health insurance benefits.

Our Young Travel health insurance for international students in Germany is particularly suitable for students and exchange pupils who are enrolled at a private university. The prerequisite is that your private university does not require statutory health insurance (GKV for ‘Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung’) as a condition of enrollment, as it is at public universities. Therefore, please check the enrolment conditions beforehand.

Advigon Young Travel insurance is for

  • au pairs
  • language students
  • university students
  • scholarship holders or doctoral candidates
  • participants in Work & Travel programs or
  • anyone demonstrably travelling to the Federal Republic of Germany for further training.

Briefly explained – What is health insurance for foreign students and au pairs?

  • In the Federal Republic of Germany, there is a very good healthcare system designed to protect all citizens from the financial risks of illness or accident. For this reason, individual health insurance in the Federal Republic is mandatory.
  • It is possible that you will need a visa for your stay in Germany. Incoming health insurance meets the requirements for obtaining your visa.
  • In the event of an accident or illness, you will receive first-class medical care in Germany thanks to Young Travel.
  • You do not need to worry about money and can enjoy your stay in Germany to the max – whether studying or at a party!

Why is Young Travel the right choice for students, au pairs or young travellers?

Für wen eignet sich die Krankenversicherung „Young Travel“

If you want to get health insurance in Germany as international students, au pairs or Work & Travel participants, Young Travel Basic or Young Travel Professional are perfect tariffs for you. And because life is not always predictable, especially as a young person, we at Advigon have tried to be an insurance provider that is as flexible as possible. Our Young Travel insurance is particularly attractive for spontaneous travelers, as the insurance can simply be taken out online up to 31 days after entry. You can cancel your health insurance early if, for example, you don’t get on with your au pair host family and return home prematurely. It is fast and easy! And if you love it so much in Germany that you want to stay longer, you can easily extend the period of your insurance cover – for up to five years.
For contracts lasting at least twelve months, you are even covered in your home country by Young Travel health insurance, for example if you want to visit your parents during the holiday season (maximum six weeks, in USA and Canada up to 14 days). And if you need to make a claim with Advigon because of an accident or a medical illness, you will be assisted by our Emergency Assistance Line – trained experts – day and night, including Sundays and public holidays! Case studies: That’s how international students and travellers benefit from our health insurance

Krankenversicherung für ausländische Studenten

Jack is a 20 year old student from Great Britain and spends two semesters at a private university in Germany. During a sunny weekend trip to a bathing lake, he suffered a laceration on his head while doing stand-up paddling and had to be taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. His health insurance Advigon Young Travel steps in and covers the costs of the treatment.

Krankenversicherung für Au Pairs in Deutschland

Deborah, 18, from the United States would like to be an au pair in Germany for a year. She takes out a Basic tariff with Advigon's Young Travel health insurance. Unfortunately, she does not get along well with the host family and would rather go back home. With Advigon's flexible tariff it is no problem to terminate the insurance as well. She keeps the ticket of the return trip as proof and terminates her insurance with Advigon.
